报告摘要:Atomically thinhexagonal boron nitride(BN) possess some characters similar to graphene butalso many unique properties unavailable to its carbon counterpart. In contrastto the intensive studies and wide publicity of graphene, many fundamentalproperties and potential applications of these BN nanomaterials are not clear.Atomically thin BN has been one of the focuses of my research. We invented thefirst large-scale synthesis route of BN sheets. The fundamental physicalproperties of the material have been systematically studied. We find thathigh-quality single-crystalline mono- and few-layer BN nanosheets are one ofthe mechanically strongest and most thermally conductive electricallyinsulating materials. We use both experiment and simulation to reveal theintrinsic dielectric screening, phonon dispersion, and Raman signature ofatomically thin BN of different thicknesses. It is also found that atomicallythin BN as an adsorbent experiences conformational changes upon surfaceadsorption of molecules, increasing adsorption energy and efficiency. The deepultraviolet light emission from BN sheets is also investigated. Thanks to theseexciting properties, atomically thin BN has strong potential to solvechallenges in different fields, such as corrosion protection, ultra-sensitivesensing, lubrication, and thermal management.

报告人简介:Dr Luhua Li obtainedhis PhD degree (in Physics) from the Australian National University in 2012 andis currently a Senior Research Fellow at Institute for Frontier Materials(IFM), Deakin University. He won Australia National Research Fellowship in2016-2018 and Alfred Deakin Research Fellowship in 2014-2015 and. His researchmainly focuses on 2D nanomaterials, especially the property and application ofatomically thin BN. His expertise lies in a variety of material synthesis andcharacterization methods. He is the author of 4 book chapters and >70journal papers, including Nature Chem., Nature Commun. ×3, Sci. Adv., NanoLett., ACS Nano ×4, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. ×2, Adv. Funct, Mater. ×3 and JACS×2. He is a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) member of the AustralianSynchrotron (SXR beamline). Dr Li’s research has cultivated a startup, where heserves as the Chief Technological Officer (CTO). The company has attracted~AU$9.4M from Australian venture capital and the Federal government.
